The 91st Psalm

Today one of our mandatory stops was to the Chaplain to make sure all of our spiritual affairs were in order. I was hoping for something amazing that might coem from Pastor Jeff or Pastor Bill but we got a checklist of non-spiritual questions instead and a chance to pick from a smorgasboard of religous materials spanning all faiths. One tiny pamphlet, about 4×4, caught my eye entitled “The Soldier’s Psalm”. To give credit, the pamphlet was an excerpt from A Call to Prayer for a Nation at War by White Stone Books. Here inside is the beauty of God’s Word in just one example.

I qoute, “During World War 1, the 91st Infantry Brigadeof the U.S. Expeditionary Army was preparing to enter combat in Europe. Most of the men were ‘green’ Soldiers, never having seen combat. The commander, a devout Christian, called his men together and gave each a card on which was printed the 91st Psalm. He challenged them to recite aloud what he called the “Soldier’s Psalm’ daily. The 91st Brigade was engaged in three of the bloodiest battles of World War 1: Chateau Thierry, Belle Wood, and the Argonne. While other units similarly engaged experienced 90 percent casualty rates, the 91st Brigade did not suffer a single combat related casualty.” What a testimony.

General Douglas MacArthur said, “In battle and in the face of danger and death, he (the Soldier) discloses those divine attributes which his Maker gave when He created man in His own image. No physical courage and no brute instinct can take the place of the Divine help which alone can sustain him.” Well said, General.

Good night to all.
